Water quality

The water quality of both dams is being monitored by ACT Parks & Conservation. Monthly data will be collected over the 18 months of the project to measure how revegetation of the dams affects the water quality.Upper Dam

Macro-invertebrate Sampling Autumn 2006

Macro-invertebrates were sampled in spring 2005 to provide a benchmark against which future samples could be compared. As well as our first dragonfly nymph, we found quite a variety of other macro-invertebrates including water boatmen (true bugs), mayfly nymphs, caddisflies, midge larvae, yabbies and freshwater shrimp. Second planting day

Our second planting was held on the 20th and 27th of October. About 3000 plants in total were planted mainly in the dryer eroded areas around the dams. FOMM members and volunteers were helped by ACT Parks and Conservation rangers and Warren Saunders of Seeds and Plants Australia.

About the dams

The dams are located along a gully in the drainage line between Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie. Overflow from the higher of the two dams flows into the lower dam, overflow from the lower dam flows into the Hackett stormwater system, and eventually into Sullivans creek.
