Dear Friends

Next Sunday 3 June we will celebrate World Environment Day 2007 with a Walk Talk and Tea on Mt Majura. I would be great if you could come along.

This is an opportunity to catch up and see and talk about the progress of some of our projects.

We will meet at Helms Place off Rivett Street in Hackett at 1.00pm. The walk will lead through partly rugged and steep terrain along the Casuarina trail. We will stop at several project sites and have tea at the former sheep camp up on Majura ridge.

A voluntary gold coin donation to offset costs would be greatly appreciated.

Please everyone who wants to contribute items for tea, drop them at my place at 9 Selwyn St, Hackett before 10am on Sunday morning for the rangers to pick up.

Horehound Blitz at the Old Sheep Camp – Sunday 17 June
On Sunday 17 June we will be back on the old sheep camp for a horehound follow-up weeding bee, starting at noon to about 3.00pm. Please bring your favourite weeding tool and leather gloves if you have them and please wrap up warmly. Walk up the Casuarina trail until you hit the summit track. You can find a map of the venue and informaton on the sheep camp rehabilitation project on our website.

Chemical handling training for parkcare volunteers – Saturday 16 June
Several people have registered for the two-day chemcert training and for a course in weed identification and I would like to thank everyone for your interest. There are still some places available for a half-day in-house chemical handling course designed to increase your awareness of the chemicals handled by Park Care volunteers and to provide you with safe handling skills.

Details for the course are as follows:
Trainer: Bernie Brown (Ranger)
Location: Athllon Depot  (Cnr of Sulwood & Athllon Drives, Farrer)
Date: Sat 16 June
Time: 10.00 am to 12.00 pm
Refreshments: Morning tea will be provided.

Please contact the ACT Parkcare coordinator Rachael Dawes directly if you want to participate in the course: e-mail: Rachael.Dawes@act.gov.au or ph 6207 2145

Next FoMM meeting – Sunday 1 July
We will meet on Sunday 1 July 5.00 – 6.30pm at 9 Selwyn Street, Hackett to discuss and prepare events for the second half of the year.

Warm regards
Waltraud
FoMM co-ordinator
