Friends of Mount Majura (FoMM) Newsletter – February 2019

Working Party @ The Fair – Sunday 24 February 2019, 9am to 1pm
Calling all volunteers!! We have 249 subscribers to this newsletter, however recently we have mostly only been getting 3-4 volunteers attending our work parties and they are more or less always the same people! Looking after seedlings is alot more work than the initial planting. Please come along to this working party if you have a couple of hours to spare, and help us restore the endangered grassy woodlands and bird habitat with one of the following tasks:*remove and replace protective plant guards;
*collect and spread wood chips;
*cut and layer Cootamundra wattle debris around plantings;
*hand remove herbaceous weeds around planting sites.

You can give as much time as you like. We have woody debris deposited at The Fair from the removal of Cootamundra wattles at the northern end of Mt Majura nature reserve and wood chips from the maintenance of fire trails. The layering of debris around plantings reduces grazing pressure and helps plants to establish; wood chip mulch suppresses weeds, “conditions” the soil and retains moisture.
Where: Nature reserve east of The Fair, North Watson; access and volunteer registration at park entrance Tay / Ian Nicol Streets; view this map.
Bring: Garden gloves, sun protection, drinking water and wear sturdy shoes.
