Fruiting Broad-leaved Privet, Ligustrum lucidum (top) and a group of privets growing along the drainage line close to the water tank (below). Each year, Friends of Mt Majura remove 1000’s of privets that invade the nature reserve from nearby gardens. Birds eat the fruits and spread the seeds of these environmental weed particularly along drainage lines with fertile soils.
Friends of Mt Majura will host a work party to remove woody weeds that invade the drainage line close to the Hackett water tank from nearby gardens and to place mulch on top of Chilean Needle Grass that volunteers previously treated with herbicide.
Come along and give a hand, choose your pet activity – mulching or weeding, enjoy the friendly company of work mates, and see how the native shrubs and herbs grow that volunteers planted over the past years.
When: Sunday, 20th July from 1pm to 4pm; give as much time as you can spare.
