Dear Friends
We had a very productive meeting to discuss FoMM affairs for 2011, a great turnout at our February working bee to tackle hawthorns and other weeds, and a couple of very pleasant seed collection sessions resulting in several bags of Cassinia fruits – thank you for your help, involvement and for your interest. We will have a number of events in March and it would be great if you can come along.

Collecting seeds – Saturday 5 March and Sunday 27 March
Restoring degraded woodlands of Mount Majura involves re-seeding and re-planting to give indigenous plants a head start. We collect the seeds locally under a licence held Greening Australia (GA). Some of the seeds will be used to raise seedlings for our National Tree Day plantings and the remainder will go to GA for “Seeds for Survival”, a program which was set up to collect seeds of indigenous plant species for the restoration of areas burnt in the 2003 bush fire. Join one or both of the following seed collection sessions (for more information visit our website at https://majura.org/)
(1) Drooping She-oak
When: Saturday, 5 March 2011, 6.00pm to 7.30pm
Where: Meet at Helms Place off Rivett Street, Hackett
(2) Eucalypts Scribbly Gum, Bundy and Apple box
When: Sunday, 27 March 2011, 4.00pm to 5.30pm
Where: Meet at the Hackett reservoir off Rivett and French Streets, Hackett
For both sessions
Bring and wear: Sun protection, good shoes, gloves and secateurs if you have them.
Please note: The collection will be cancelled if conditions are wet.

Mount Majura Bush Clean-Up – Sunday 6 March
Lend a hand on Clean-up Australia Day 2011 and help collect rubbish at the north-west slope of Mount Majura. This will be a joint event with the Watson Woodland Working Group.
When: Sunday, 6 March 2011 from 9.00am to 12.00noon
Where: Meet at nature park entrance / car parking area off Antill Street, opposite Carotel, North Watson; view the map on our website for the meeting / registration point and Clean-up area.
Bring and wear: Sun protection, long sleeve and pants, enclosed foot wear and gloves if you have them.

Working Bee Majura paddock – Sunday 20 March
We will spread the seeds that we’ve collected in December last year, hand weed horehound that grows amongst creeping saltbush and other native ground cover plants, and remove the protective guards from those seedlings that have outgrown their guards.
When: Sunday 20 March 9.00am to 1.00pm
Where: Meet at the Hackett reservoir off Rivett French Streets
Bring and wear: Sun protection, body covering garden clothes, sturdy shoes
We’ll provide the tools and morning tea.

Ant Walk – Sunday 3 April
Join ant specialist Ajay Narendra of the Australian National University for a glimpse into the fascinating world of ants. Learn about these highly organised predators and scavengers and some of the 45 species that live on Mount Majura. Children, older than seven and accompanied by adults are welcome.
