Spring Working Party (16/09/2012)

Spring into action at the spring working party hosted by Friends of Mt Majura.

Woody weeds put to good use. Branches of Cootamundra wattle are placed around the young plants. The mulch helps to suppress weeds and to keep the guards in place.

There are lots of things to do at the National Tree Day 2012 planting site on Mt Majura. Our key weeding task will be to control abundant Paterson’s Curse (spraying large patches and hand weeding around the seedlings). We will be also cutting and daubing woody weeds – make sure you wear protective googles (provided by the rangers) when tackling the large sweet briar roses. If you don’t want to use chemicals help spreading the woody weeds debris around the young plants.

The first volunteer on site will receive a pair of brand new leather gloves to take home after work.
