Working Party to Improve Grassy Woodland @ The Fair (19/10/2025)

Native grasses such as this Wallaby grass protect the soil from erosion, keep weeds at bay, provide important food and shelter for wildlife, and are outrageously beautiful (W.Pix).

Assist nature – join the Friends of Mt Majura working party and help spreading grass seeds in the nature reserve east of The Fair on Sunday, 19th October.

We will loosen the soil at selected sites to make it receptive for the seeds, remove any competitive weed such as Paterson’s Curse, and scatter light mulch on top of direct-seeded sites to hold the seeds in place.

Choose your pet activity: weed, seed or mulch.

When: Sunday, 19th October 2025, 9am – 12noon.

Where: meet at the nature park entry Tay / Ian Nicol Streets, The Fair North Watson; view this map.

What: Scarify soil, spread seeds, and scatter light much at selected sites.

Bring: Sun protection, garden gloves; we provide seeds, buckets for collecting mulch, tools and gloves and a delicious home made cake for morning tea.

Inquiry: secretary@majura.org

This working party follows-up earlier work carried out in May at a different site; to see more background info click here.
